It is Ironman Lake Placid weekend and we were fortunate to catch up with a few of our athletes racing on Sunday. All the hard work, prioritization, and determination will carry our teammates to the finish when MIKE REILLY calls their name.
IMLP will be an AWESOME time and we can't wait to follow along on race day!!
Iris Nafshi
WHAT OTHER FULL DISTANCE/140.6 TRIATHLONS HAVE YOU DONE?
Iris: Ironman Maryland in 2021
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO RACE IRONMAN LAKE PLACID THIS YEAR?
Iris: Because Quoc convinced me! It was two days after I completed IMMD and my brain wasn’t thinking well!
WHAT IS ONE NEW THING YOU LEARNED WHILE TRAINING FOR IMLP THIS YEAR?
Iris: I prefer to swim with jellyfish rather than climb hills.
WHAT HAVE YOU VISUALIZED FOR YOURSELF FOR THIS RACE?
Iris: The sunset in Lake Placid is stunning and I look forward running in the sunset and soaking it all in. It will be a long day for me (I’ll probably get close to the cut off time) so I plan on fighting hard to stay positive and finish the race. I love the quote that says that finish time is about the ego, but crossing the finish line is about the character.
Joe Lacon
PTC Teammate Joe Lacon (@laconj2 ) will be repping the Green & Yellow at Ironman Lake Placid this weekend. IMLP will be Joe's first full distance/Ironman triathlon!
Here are some of Joe's thoughts on this weekend:
𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕕𝕚𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕀𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕜𝕖 ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣?
I remember sitting on my sofa during last year’s race and reading all the conversations and support for the PTC 2021 IMLP athletes on Discord and Facebook and was very intrigued. All it took was watching all of their finisher videos and I didn't really think much more about it and signed up the next week. You can ask me next week but so far I haven’t regretted my decision yet =)
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕟𝕖𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕀𝕄𝕃ℙ 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟚 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕒 𝕤𝕚𝕘𝕟𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕥?
The importance of figuring out nutrition for a race like this. It took me a while to find what works for me and bonked on a few training rides but through trial and error think I have it figured out.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕧𝕚𝕤𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕫𝕖𝕕 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖?
Crossing the finish line and hearing Mike Reilly call my name and just soaking in the entire experience in such a beautiful place
Andy Seo
PTC Teammate Andy Seo will be repping the Green & Yellow at Ironman Lake Placid this weekend. IMLP will be Andy's first full distance/Ironman triathlon!
Here are some of Andy's thoughts on this weekend:
𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕕𝕚𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕀𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕜𝕖 ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣?
If I'm planning to race only one full distance for a while, might as well make it a challenging race.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕟𝕖𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕀𝕄𝕃ℙ 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟚 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕒 𝕤𝕚𝕘𝕟𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕥?
In life, I usually have couple back up plans. But to train for a full distance, I need a 3rd, 4th, and possibly a 5th back up plan.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕧𝕚𝕤𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕫𝕖𝕕 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖?
Finish the race as best as I can and make it a memorable experience for my family.
Richard Gering
Next up for our IMLP teammates racing is Richard Gering!
This will also be Richard's first Ironman/full distance triathlon after a lot of success at the 70.3 distance. Here are some of Richard's thoughts for this weekend:
𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕕𝕚𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕀𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕜𝕖 ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣?
I originally signed up for 2020, but Covid pushed it to 2021. I ended up being injured May 21st so deferred to 2022.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕟𝕖𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕀𝕄𝕃ℙ 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟚 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕒 𝕤𝕚𝕘𝕟𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕥?
I understood that nutrition, hydration and recovery is as important as swimming, riding and running
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕧𝕚𝕤𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕫𝕖𝕕 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖?
Crossing the line!
Robert Batdorf
Our next PTC featured teammate racing at Ironman Lake Placid is Robert (Bob) Batdorf. Bob recently qualified for the Boston Marathon this past fall and is looking to add another qualification at IMLP. Let's go get it!
Here's Bob's thoughts on this weekend:
𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕕𝕚𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕀𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕜𝕖 ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣?
I had no specific plans or ambition to do an IM. Growing up in upstate NY and loving ADK, IMLP was always in the back of my mind. I always said if I ever did an IM, Lake Placid would be the race… I got some encouragement from PTC and here we are!
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕟𝕖𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕀𝕄𝕃ℙ 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟚 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕒 𝕤𝕚𝕘𝕟𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕥?
It’s way more fun to do a race with other people than on your own. Even if you aren’t literally training together, being able to check in, compare notes, and have the support and encouragement of teammates is priceless.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕧𝕚𝕤𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕫𝕖𝕕 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖?
Racing a solid race. Overcoming the doubts that are sure to come by trusting that the training was enough and using the energy of the spectators and other athletes to mentally power through to the finish.
Juan Munoz
Our next PTC Ironman Lake Placid spotlight is Juan Munoz! Juan has been the heart and backbone of PTC for the
DQ Events race series. He is doing over 10 DQ races to help us in the club standings while training for a full Ironman. Amazing! You got this Juan
Here's Juan's thoughts for IMLP:
𝕎𝕙𝕪 𝕕𝕚𝕕 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕔𝕙𝕠𝕠𝕤𝕖 𝕥𝕠 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖 𝕀𝕣𝕠𝕟𝕞𝕒𝕟 𝕃𝕒𝕜𝕖 ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕔𝕚𝕕 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕪𝕖𝕒𝕣?
The race is legen... wait for it dary.... legendary
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕚𝕤 𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕟𝕖𝕨 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕣𝕟𝕖𝕕 𝕨𝕙𝕚𝕝𝕖 𝕥𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕀𝕄𝕃ℙ 𝟚𝟘𝟚𝟚 𝕥𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕞𝕒𝕕𝕖 𝕒 𝕤𝕚𝕘𝕟𝕚𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕒𝕟𝕥 𝕚𝕞𝕡𝕒𝕔𝕥?
I need to train more, lots more and maybe think about getting the hamstring fixed.
𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕙𝕒𝕧𝕖 𝕪𝕠𝕦 𝕧𝕚𝕤𝕦𝕒𝕝𝕚𝕫𝕖𝕕 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕪𝕠𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕝𝕗 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕤 𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕖?
Had a few dreams I messed up the transition bags at Placid, but other than that my goal is to finish in under 777 minutes.
